The Balloon Stone Standon Green End

The Balloon Stone Standon Green End - A cultural opportunity.

Cllr. Buckmaster, an East Herts. Councillor has contacted Standon Parish Council as he received a request (below) regarding the 240th anniversary of the first manned Hot air balloon flight in the country. The request is to have a link with the town of Lucca in Italy from where Vincenzo Lunardi came.
Is there anyone, a local history society that might be interested in taking this up? The person requesting this says:

I am an Italian resident in Hertford, and I would like to draw your attention to a very interesting opportunity for international collaboration which would fit in very well with your Cultural Strategy.
I don't know if you're aware, but 15 September this year marks the 240th anniversary of the first manned hot air balloon flight in Britain - which ended its journey in Standon Green End.
This aeronaut was [http://Vincenzo Lunardi - Wikipedia]Vincenzo Lunardi, from Lucca, Italy, and his landing spot is marked by the "balloon stone": The Balloon Stone, Standon Green End, Standon, Hertfordshire | Educational Images | Historic England Unfortunately the stone itself is now contained within private land, but its location is easily reached and there is a public footpath nearby.
The Lucca council would be very interested in commemorating the 240th anniversary of Lunardi's achievement by conducting some kind of joint initiative with their counterparts here in the UK. This would also be a great opportunity to raise awareness of not just the event itself but a landmark which is part of our local heritage in East Hertfordshire, but which is currently standing lonely and largely unknown.

Please contact our clerk (clerk@standonparishcouncil.gov.uk ) if this would be of interest, and we will put you in touch with the people who would be very happy to discuss the possibilities with you.
